Sweden has been making fine candles for more than 150 years. They use stearin which has a vegetable base and produces an extremely clean and slow burning candle. Liljeholmens Stearinfabrik is located in the Småland town of Oskarshamn and is the world's largest manufacturer of candles and one of Sweden's oldest companies still in operation.
The history of Liljeholmen is the story of how candles came to Sweden in 1839 and how they developed from being an important source of light to creating an atmosphere for everyday life and celebrations. All our candles are cast in molds using the same method as when we first started in 1839, combining manual craftsmanship and automated production.
